Leaving Elements

After nearly 5 years working at Elements, last Friday ended my time as co-founder and CTO at this FinTech startup. What a wild ride! Elements is in good hands, and is poised for some great success!

The core reason for my departure is simple: I’m just not getting energy from this problem space anymore, so I’m taking a break, and looking for the next thing.

It’s hard to end a journey as a co-founder. I’m feeling all the feels. As I revisit the journey in my mind this poem resonates with me:

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow;
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When Sorrow walked with me.

― Robert Browning Hamilton

When you attempt to push back the void and put something new into the world, you learn so much! While I’ve had a couple other companies I’ve personally ran as freelance software engineer, this was my first VC funded startup experience, and wow, I’ve learned so much through the process! Maybe in the future as things settle I’ll attempt to distill some of the things I’ve learned through it all.

But as William Wordsworth says, “We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind.”

Time for the next chapter to unfold!
